The UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Almeida main card featured a welterweight bout between Irishman Ian Garry and Daniel Rodriguez. Rodriguez, 17-3, goes into the bout with a loss behind him. However, he has notable wins over Kevin Lee, Li Jingliang and Mike Perry.
Garry, undefeated at 11-0, looks to get his fifth straight win in the UFC. Two finishes in his last five, Garry will be looking to cement his name as a ranked contender.
The bout resulted in Garry largely dominating the striking exchanges. Garry stopped Rodriguez in the first round with a head kick and some ground and pound to secure the TKO. Through dropping Rodriguez’ arms via a body kick, Garry was able to bait him into dropping his elbows, and followed up with a finishing head kick.
In the post-fight interview, Garry explained how he just knew he was better. He predicted the right leg finish, and knew it would have its result. Garry asked for Neil Magny in the post fight interview, explaining how he was the main gatekeeper for the division.
