Alex Pereira capped off an incredible night of fights at UFC 300 with a breathtaking KO win over former champion Jamahal Hill.
Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill Fight Preview
Jamahal Hill makes his return to the Octagon after an Achilles tear forced him to vacate his championship last July. Hill’s title run was short-lived, winning the belt just six months prior against Glover Teixeira and never defending it. Teixeira is the mentor and teammate of Alex Pereira, who happened to be in his corner the night he lost to Hill. Hill looks to continue his success at light heavyweight and extend his win streak to five while gaining back the title he never lost.
As one of the only two division champions in UFC history, Alex Pereira has had a historic UFC run. It took just four fights in the UFC for Pereira to win his first title, and just seven to win his second. After taking out the dangerous Jiri Prochazka in his last fight, Pereira secured vacant light heavyweight gold and continues his streak of activity with his fourth fight in the past year. Pereira is a feared opponent whose striking is some of the best the UFC has ever seen, but a tough test and vengeance sits in front of him when facing Jamahal Hill.
This fight has been over a year in the making ever since Hill defeated Teixeira. Many expect this fight to deliver a knockout as both men pack power and have a history.
Fight Recap
Pereira looked to target the injury that kept Hill out for so long, landing many leg kicks to start. Hill also looked to land some kicks of his own, and the start of the fight was a very slow-paced and technical kicking battle. Both men started to open up and exchange strikes halfway through the opening frame. A low kick was about to stop the action before Pereira wanted to keep fighting. The champion proceeded to land a left hook from hell which sat Hill down and had him looking at the stars. Pereira followed up with some heavy ground and pound which was the icing on the cake and forced Herb Dean to step in. The knockout came just over halfway into Round 1 and put a stamp on Pereira’s vengeance.
