Bobby Green headlined for the second time in his UFC tenure and he entered the octagon as an underdog against Grant Dawson. The top 10 lightweight with only one defeat as a pro was looking to make a statement performance over fan favourite Green to propel himself up the rankings. Dawson has a dominant wrestling game plan which has suffocated many opponents and he came into the fight on an 11 fight win streak. The event took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, a spotlight for a stand out performance.
The Quick Finish By Bobby Green
Green started the round a like all others in his careers with his hands down and crisp boxing in and out of range. Before Dawson could even get settled into the fight it was a vicious left straight from Green which crumbled the rising star and with a few additional hammer fists Keith Peterson stepped in at only 33 seconds of the very first round. The result was a huge upset as Dawson came into the fight as a big favourite mainly down to his dominant style and his unbeaten UFC record before the fight.
This was the fastest finish of the 37 year old veterans career and will most likely earn him a spot in the rankings this week. He will leapfrog Dawson and be in the mix with other stellar names. Now Bobby Green has back to back finishes after his submission over Tony Ferguson in July and is unbeaten in 2023, he now wants a fourth fight before the end of the year.
UFC Fighter’s React
The MMA world were in awe after the stunning finish. Popular lightweights, Dan Hooker and Renato Moicano both threw their hats into the ring in response to Green’s request for a fight on UFC 296 in December.
