Tom Aspinall and Poland’s Marcin Tybura headlined tonight’s UFC London card.
Entering the bout with a (12-3) record, Aspinall is making his first walk to the cage after being sidelined with a major knee injury. In Aspinall’s most recent outing against Curtis Blaydes in London, England, last Summer, he suffered a defeat in the opening exchange after crumbling to the floor in agony with his knee blowing out.
Prior to that, the Englishman looked unstoppable since joining the UFC ranks, attaining stoppage victories over Jake Collier, Alan Baudot, Andrei Arlovski, Serghei Spivac, and Alexander Volkov.
Meanwhile, Tybura has been quietly working and collecting victories in the background, winning seven of his last eight. Tonight will mark the Polish native’s eighteenth walk to the cage, and a statement win over the hometown hero would perhaps be his most significant to date. After falling short against Alexander Volkov at UFC 267, Tybura has picked up two decision wins over Alexandr Romanov and Blagoy Inavov.
Aspinall was extremely crisp from the get-go, looked light on his feet and was moving around like a lightweight. It took the Brit just over a minute to dispatch his opponent. A clean combination sent Tybura crashing to the canvas, resulting in the beginning of the end for the Polish international.
Official result: Tom Aspinall def. Marcin Tybura via TKO (elbow and punches) at 1:13 of Round 1.
