Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland delivered for a noisy Orlando crowd last night at UFC Orlando
Thompson entered the fight with a point to prove, having dropped his last two outings to Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad. Prior, ‘Wonderboy’ had earned hard-fought victories over Geoff Neal and Vincente Luque, who traded with the Karate master.
Holland was returning after ‘retiring’ from the sport following his first-round defeat to Khamzhat Chimaev at UFC 279. Before that, the active 30-year-old earned stoppage wins over Alex Oliveira and Tim Means.
The Amway centre was on its feet as the bout between too-talented strikers came to an end. The bout was a back-and-forth war over four rounds at a gruelling pace. Round three and four, Thompson eventually began to pull away on the scorecards landing his strikes on demand. Holland, who suffered a hand injury in the first, was comprised for a large duration of the bout. His Corner stopped the fight in between the fourth and fifth rounds, awarding the TKO victory to Thompson.
Fans were ecstatic to see Stephen Thompson return to the win column. See what they had to say below.
