This weekend the MMA Leaders go to China for UFC Macau with a bantamweight title eliminator between two former champions.
Former Bantamweight champion Petr Yan has had mixed results since his controversial title disqualification back in 2021. The Russian tore through the 135lbs division with crisp boxing and pure aggression but has dipped in form of late. However, the defeats have only come to the very elite, Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili for example. Two time flyweight king Deiveson Figueiredo is one of the most devastating punchers the 125lbs division has ever seen and since his move to 135lbs he has looked unstoppable. With three superb wins and performances since December 2023 he is on the verge of a bantamweight title shot.
In the co-main event Yan Xiaonan hopes to rebound on home soil after her 115lbs title defeat to fellow countrywomen Zhang Weili. Hoping to spoil the party is rising Strawweight contender Tabatha Ricci. The Brazilian is a fan favourite and on great form is 2024 with two wins so far this year. If she is able defeat Xiaonan in her toughest test to date she would catapult herself into title contention. For the hometown fighter this fight is about rebounding from a devastating loss at the peak of the sport. Further down the main card you will find an electric light heavyweight match up with experienced veteran Volkan Oezdemir aiming for three first round finishes in a row. He will face surging prospect Carlos Ulberg, who’s on a six fight win streak and last time out got a 12 second knockout of Alonzo Menifield.
Ones To Watch at UFC Macau
On the main card an undefeated female flyweight looks to make a huge statement in her home nation. Wang Cong had an explosive debut knocking out Victoria Leonardo cold in just 62 seconds. Fans are engaged after that sole UFC bout and there is a potential star about to shine. There is a reason she is on the main card because everyone expects fireworks. Early on the prelims there is some British interest with Lone’er Kavanagh at 7-0 he is a prospect out of GB Top Team that made his name on Cage Warriors. Highlight reel finishes and lighting fast viral knockouts are plentiful in his evergreen career. Kicking off the main card is Ozzy Diaz making his UFC debut against Chinese light heavyweight prospect Zhang Mingyang who’s bouncing in off a stunning debut KO in February.
