The road to Alexandre Pantoja’s flyweight championship goes through Mexico, and what a main event to give to the Mexican fans with Brandon Moreno vs. Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico City.
It is unfortunate that UFC Mexico City lost the original main event between Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi, due to Albazi sustaining an injury. Mexico would have been in for a treat with that interesting matchup between top contenders but that’s the way the fight game goes – injuries play spoiler.
One man that wants to take full advantage of the opportunity of filling in as a replacement is Brandon Royval as he looks to steal the show and exact revenge on Brandon Moreno, who has a victory over him. If Royval can steal a victory from the former flyweight champion, he can slide into contention very easily and hopefully go on to get a second shot at UFC gold.
Brandon Moreno made his dreams of being a world champion come true during his wars with long-time rival Deiveson Figueiredo. Moreno came up short defending his title against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290. One thing is for sure, Moreno may stumble but he always finds his way back to the top. A win in Mexico could cement a future date with Pantoja inside the Octagon one more time for the flyweight title.
Weigh-ins go down early Friday morning followed by the ceremonial weigh-ins later in the day. Full weigh-in results for UFC Mexico City can be found below.
