Ronda Rousey is arguably the most influential woman in sports entertainment history. she has conquered both the UFC and WWE, and she has won titles in both promotions. Rousey is parting ways with the wrestling juggernaut, leaving much speculation on what she will do next. Due to the merger of the two companies, many fans are excited about the prospect of Rousey returning to the octagon.
Ronda Rousey The MMA Iconic
Rousey is a trailblazer in female sports as she was the first woman ever to hold a UFC belt. In the early stages of her career, she was unstoppable, with her opponents being lucky if they saw the end of the first round. She was known for her ferocious arm bars and immense judo skills. Furthermore, Rousey’s bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games shows her elite skills on the mat. She is a former women’s bantamweight champion who defeated fighters like Miesha Tate. Rousey’s dominance felt like it was never going to end, as she kept dispatching every challenger the UFC threw her way. However, Holly Holm ended her reign on an iconic night in Australia. After the defeat Rousey suffered devastating losses to the likes of Amanda Nunes and has never returned to the octagon since.
Making The Switch
After she departed from the UFC, Rousey decided to give pro wrestling a go. She first appeared at the 2018 Royal Rumble and then had her first match at that year’s Wrestlemania. Rousey achieved a lot in a time with WWE. She won multiple titles both in singles and tag team competitions. Yet, the most notable achievement was her main eventing Wrestlemania alongside Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Her most recent run with the company was less well-received than the first time. She received a lot of backlash from fans and wasn’t involved in the best creative storylines. What looks to be her last match was the MMA Rules match against Shayna Baszler at this year’s Summerslam. As previously stated, many people are excited about the potential return to MMA, now that she seems to be done with WWE.
Would The Boss Have Her Back
Rousey is a huge name and is a massive draw for any company she is a part of. You could see why a promotion like the UFC would want Rousey back. She is one of the athletes who paved the way for the UFC we see today. However, UFC president Dana White quickly shut down the rumours of a return when speaking to Sports Illustrated.
“There’s no shot… She’s accomplished everything she set out to do.”
