Pros React to Jon Jones Finishing Stipe Miocic at UFC 309
The MMA world erupted after Jon Jones stopped Stipe Miocic in the third round of their heavyweight title fight at UFC 309. The dominant performance at Madison Square Garden once again solidified Jones’ legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Jon Jones Vs. Stipe Miocic, A Year in Making
Jones returned to the Octagon for the first time since his first-round submission victory over Ciryl Gane in March 2023, where he captured the vacant UFC heavyweight title. Originally slated to fight Miocic at UFC 285, an injury side-lined Jones, pushing the dream fight to UFC 309.
Meanwhile, Miocic stepped into the cage after a three-year layoff. The former heavyweight champion had last fought at UFC 260, where he lost his title to Francis Ngannou via a second-round KO.
Jon Jones Dominates at Madison Square Garden
From the start, Jones controlled the action. The first round saw “Bones” nearly finish Miocic with vicious elbows, though the former champ managed to hang on. Miocic showed glimpses of his former self in the second round but couldn’t shift the momentum.
The third round delivered the decisive moment. Jones landed a spinning back kick to Miocic’s body, sending him to the canvas. A few follow-up strikes sealed the victory for Jones, ending the fight via TKO.
