The UFC Vegas 67 consisted of a last-minute light heavyweight clash between Sean Strickland and Nassourdine Imavov.
Imavov was originally scheduled to face Kelvin Gastelum in a middleweight bout, but the former contender had to withdraw due to injury.
Strickland entered the bout with a chip on his shoulder after losing back-to-back fights. The loud-spoken American lost to middleweight champion Alex Pereira last July and recently lost to Jared Cannonier in December.
Entering the bout Imavov was riding a three-fight win streak with solid wins over Ian Heinisch, Edmen Shahbazyan, and Joaquin Buckley.
Last night’s headliner went the full twenty-five-minutes. Strickland started the fight strong establishing range and landing shots while tight in the pocket. Imavov was able to pull back and land some offence of his own in round two. In the last three-rounds, Strickland cruised his way to victory, landing more, pressuring Imavov and even shooting for takedowns. Strickland, who wasn’t pleased with the judges’ in his last outing, thanked them for awarding him with the unanimous decision this time round.
