The UFC looks to put on an exciting fight card in St Louis as two of their top titans Derrick Lewis and Rodrigo Nascimento will take centre stage in the main event.
As much as Derrick Lewis is not a fan of five-round fights, the marquee looks a bit brighter with his name in the main event spot. Between his knockouts and his memorable quotes inside the Octagon, Derrick Lewis is always must-see TV.
Enter Rodrigo Nascimento, the new young gun on the UFC heavyweight scene that looks to use the name Derrick Lewis as a stepping stone.
Derrick Lewis can play spoiler to Rodrigo’s rise in the heavyweight division. Time and time again, Lewis has proven critics wrong when they count him out and forget how much of a staple he is against the rising stars.
It is just unfortunate that the devastating power and all the spectacular knockouts have not been rewarded with a championship or another shot at gold since 2018.
As a fighter’s résumé begins to get a bit spotty with wins and losses, the retirement talk looms over every interview.
Derrick Lewis may be the Black Beast but Father Time fears nothing. Luckily for fight fans, Lewis does not seem to be close to hanging up the gloves.
Derrick Lewis, the Flying Beast
What Derrick Lewis did at UFC 291 is a testament to why he has become a fan favourite. With his back against the wall on a losing streak, he made UFC 291 his night with a memorable moment.
Fight fans across the world still marvel at witnessing an evolution in Lewis’ tool set where he landed a violent flying knee against Marcos Rogério de Lima.
The knockout power from another realm that Lewis possesses will hopefully get the St Louis crowd ready to explode.
Who knows, if there happens to be a knockout of Rodrigo Nascimento, Lewis might slip into the title contention picture with how the heavyweight division is looking these days.
