Conor McGregor is never one to shy away from confronting any member from Khabib Nurmagomedov’s family.
In a since-deleted social media post, Conor McGregor has sparked controversy by leveling accusations against Umar Nurmagomedov, the cousin of former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and other family members, alleging the use of steroids.
Umar Nurmagomedov took to Twitter on January 8th, addressing the criticism he often faces for extended breaks between fights, stating:
“I often get accused of long lay-offs in between fights, but it’s not always up to me. I’m ready to fight on February 17th or March 9th, but not one single fighter in my division wants to fight me.” This tweet sheds light on the challenges he faces in securing fights, with only four UFC appearances in the past three years.

However, McGregor, known for his outspoken nature, responded to Umar’s tweet with a bold claim, stating, “Your younger brother popped for steroids, that’s 4 now out of your family caught on steroids while fighting.” The reference is to Usman Nurmagomedov, Umar’s younger sibling, who faced a six-month MMA ban in November 2023 after testing positive for a prohibited substance.
McGregor’s allegations extend beyond Usman, hinting at other family members possibly involved in doping controversies. Islam Makhachev and Zubaira Tukhugov, closely associated with the Nurmagomedov family, have faced accusations or charges related to illegal doping. Tukhugov, in particular, received a two-year USADA ban for ostarine use in October 2016, while Makhachev faced allegations of IV therapy use ahead of a UFC 284 bout against Alexander Volkanovski.
It’s crucial to note that McGregor’s claims against Umar Nurmagomedov are speculative at this point, possibly fueled by a longstanding feud between the Irish fighter and the Nurmagomedov family. This feud traces back to McGregor’s high-profile clash with Khabib at UFC 229, characterized by pre-fight tensions and a post-fight brawl that spilled outside the Octagon.
McGregor recently unveiled his UFC comeback plans, sharing a video on X and revealing a matchup against Michael Chandler in Las Vegas on June 29th. However, official confirmation from the UFC is still pending.
