UFC Vegas 62 marks the return of Victor Henry as he prepares to make his second appearance under the UFC in Las Vegas.
The 35-year-old enters the bout with the intention of bagging his second win with the organisation and third consecutive fight dating back to the end of 2021. Looking to spoil the party for Victor is 36-fight veteran Raphael Assunção, who rides a four-fight skid.
Assunção has shared the cage with some notable names, including Urijah Faber, Cory Sandhagen, and Cody Garbrandt. The Brazilian also holds victories over former UFC bantamweight champion T.J Dillashaw, current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, Marlon Moraes and Rob Font.
A victory for Victor would certainly be one of the most significant wins of his career. Ahead of Saturday’s fights, we had the pleasure of throwing Victory Henry some fun quick-fire questions. Check them out below.
Quick-fire with Victor Henry
Who has hit you the hardest in your career memory?
The hardest shott I took was still in my ammy days. A guy named Wayne Wrath hit me and spun my ass around. I fought him at 145 even though I was walking around at 142.
If you could reach the top in any other sport, expect fighting. Which sport would you do?
Some kind of extreme sport. I love skating and mountain biking. If I see anything that looks like a ramp, I’m going for it.
What would you do differently if given a chance to start your career from scratch?
If I could start sooner, that would be the only thing I would change.
Money or legacy?
They work hand in hand and can’t make one without the other.
Favourite dish/food?
BBQ of any sort. Korean BBQ, southern BBQ, Japanese BBQ. They all hold a special place in my heart and stomach.
Rules Within MMA
If you had the power to change one rule in MMA, what would you change?
Definitely, soccer kicks and kicks to a grounded opponent. The entire fight community would be different. Also, weight classes. This cutting thing is ridiculous.
What are some of your favourite hobbies outside of fighting?
Outside of fighting. Working on my cutlass and eating with my homies. Training takes so much time away from that, so when I have a chance to chill, I do.
What is the most challenging thing about being in fight camp?
Definitely the slowing down process. We get caught up in trying to work so hard that we drive ourselves into the ground. So we need to learn when to hit the brakes.
The Big Question
Knockout or submission?
KO every time. More money and less effort.
Who has been the biggest inspiration/influence in your career?
Josh Barnett, my coach and my pops Kacha.
Which victory has meant the most to you in your career so far?
My first fight in Japan against Tokoro.
Where is one place you’d love to fight that you’ve not?
I’d like to fight in Korea…. only for food purposes after the fight.
Everyone loves to know a fighter’s favourite fighter. Who is yours?
My favorite fighter was Chris “lights out” Lydell.
Are you for or against open scoring?
Open scoring is cool. I’m with it. But some judges need to be accountable with their decisions. Lots of fighters get screwed because these judges don’t have to worry about anything coming back on them.
Who would be your dream fight in the sport? Past or present?
‘d fight one of the founding fathers of the U.S those dudes could scrap.
If you had one opportunity to convince someone who’s never watched the sport before to become a fan, what fight are you showing them?
That would really depend on the reason why they haven’t watched before… you can’t show everyone the same fight and get the same reaction.
Which fighters do you like watching as a fan?
Honestly I like watching the old fighters back when they were younger. Guys like Josh, Mirko Crocop, Andy hug, Andy Souwer. All those guys were still pure to their discipline and used it to great potential.
What is your most hated/dreaded training drill/workout?
Anything that involves s&c. I like fighting and Martial Arts, this gym crap is stupid lol.
Who has given you your toughest fight of memory?
Toughest fight was Bronson Casares. It was early in my career, both of us were undefeated and the guy just wouldn’t go down.
