UFC Vegas 64 goes down this weekend in the UFC Apex. Headlined by Marinda Rodriquez and Amanda Lemos, talent is abundant on display this weekend.
Originally intended to be headlined by Bryce Mitchell and Movsar Evloev, the two 115lb’ers are now set for a five-round clash as its replacement.
UFC Vegas 64: Marinda Rodriguez vs. Amanda Lemos
This is not a fight to miss at strawweight. Arguably two of the best in the division are going head-to-head to get closer to that title. Marina Rodriguez is arguably taking the bigger risk out of the headliners this weekend.
She is defending her number three spot in the strawweight division against an opponent in Amanda Lemos, who is a threat in every area of her game.
35-year-old Rodriguez is on a tear in the strawweight division following her entry to the UFC after a successful Contender Series win. Defeating the likes of Amanda Ribas, Mackenzie Dern and Tecia Torres, the only loss she has seen in the company is to current champion Carla Esparza.
Lemos will be desperate to get her hands on Rodriguez’s rank. Both fighters are on impressive win streaks and aren’t many fights away from a shot at the belt. After losing her first UFC bout, Lemos has looked almost perfect, apart from a loss to former champion Jessica Andrade. Following a guillotine win over Michelle Waterson, Lemos made it clear she was on the run for the title.
Neither fighter will want their respective runs to end however, only one can come out victorious and get closer to a chance at the 115lb belt.
Neil Magny Vs Daniel Rodriguez
Ever present, Neil Magny faces Daniel Rodriguez as the co-main event this weekend. A fight between 13th and 14th ranked welterweights making an important bout for both fighters’ careers. Both fighters were originally set to fight a month ago. Following Rodriguez’s decision to pull out, the bout is now taking place this weekend, stacking the card even more.
Magny has been in the welterweight top 15 for what seems like a lifetime. The American has seemingly taken the role of testing the newcomers of the rankings. Following a loss to up-and-comer Shavkat Rakhmonov, Magny is looking to get his form back over a tough opponent in ‘D-Rod’.
Wins over Carlos Condit, Robbie Lawler and Li Jingliang. Neil Magny is not to be underestimated.
Daniel Rodriguez is coming off a win against the Li Jingliang at UFC 279. The split decision was a controversial one to fans but left him in the top 15. Rodriguez has had many tough fights in the UFC, but none as dangerous as Magny.
This could arguably be a big step up in competition for ‘D-Rod’ and, once again, another killer of an opponent for Magny. A definite contender for fight of the night this weekend.
The main events will be a great finale of what promises to be a great night of fighting. A stacked card from top to bottom. The likes of Olympic silver medallist and undefeated fighter Mark Madsen, veteran Darrick Minner and English up-and-comer Jake Hadley all compete this weekend as well. This is not a night of fighting to be missed.
