Just like any event, UFC Vegas 74 has a few fighters who might make their last walk to the octagon. By no means am I saying any of these fighters deserve to be cut. This is just who I think the UFC could potentially look at cutting ties with due to losing streaks. With that said, here are 3 fighters I feel could be cut with losses at UFC Vegas 74:
Don’Tale Mayes
Don’Tale Mayes has had tough run in the UFC, starting off with 2 losses to Cyril Gane and Rodrigo Nascimento. Mayes was able to bounce back and pick up wins in two straight, against Josh Parisian and Roque Martinez. Mayes was unable to build off these wins and went on to lose his next two, including his last fight against Augusto Sakai. His loss to Hamdy Abdelwahab has since been overturned to a no-contest, however, a loss to Andrei Arlovski on Saturday night would move his UFC record to 2-4 and possibly signal the end of his tenure.
Jinh Yu Frey
Jinh Yu Frey is a former 2x women’s atomweight champion before her UFC days in Invicta FC. Sadly, these skills have not been able to transfer over to 115 pounds in the UFC. Yu Frey has a 2-4 UFC record with losses to tough girls in Vanessa Demopolous and Loma Lookboonme. While Yu Frey was able to grab two wins in 2021, she failed to capitalize off that hype in 2022 and dropped two straight. She recently suffered a 47-second KO loss to Polyana Viana, and with a loss here will have lost 3 straight. Facing another struggling girl in Elise Reed, it could very well be a fight for their jobs.
Elise Reed
Elise Reed is Jin Yu Frey’s opponent for her June 3rd matchup and has seen similar struggles as of late. Reed has bounced back and forth between wins and losses throughout her UFC career. She has only lost to some solid girls in the aforementioned Lookboonme, Sijara Eubanks, and Sam Hughes. Reed has solid wins over young prospects in Cory McKenna and Melissa Martinez, but has yet to grab a finish. Reed’s inability to finish fights including one of her 2 wins being a close split decision could have her as a cut candidate. Reed herself has been finished in all 3 of her UFC losses, so keep an eye on her fight with Jin Yu Frey as both women could be fighting for their UFC careers.
