A scintillating strawweight title eliminator between Amanda Lemos and Virna Jandiroba headlines UFC Vegas 94 this weekend.
Amanda Lemos bounced back from defeat earlier this year against Mackenzie Dern. A disappointing title fight defeat to current champion Weili Zhang ended 2023 on a sour note for the Brazilian but she returned to the win column in February at UFC 298. Lemos is one of the most devastating finishers in all women’s divisions with eight knockouts in 14 career wins. The main event slot is nothing new for “Amandinha”, who has headlined a pair of Apex events and now walks to the cage last once again this weekend.
Her opponent is a submission specialist and is striding towards strawweight gold. Virna Jandiroba rides a three-fight win streak and has already earned a win this year against Lupita Godinez. With 13 wins via submission, the ground is a dangerous place for any opponent facing Jandiroba. This will be her first main event and a statement victory could take her one step closer to the strawweight belt.
Throughout the card, you can find some intriguing bouts particularly Cody Durden vs. Bruno Silva at flyweight. Silva arrives in ferocious form with 3 consecutive finishes as he aims to claim Durden’s ranking at flyweight. Durden is a battle-tested veteran with nine UFC fights under his belt and five wins. However, his three UFC defeats all come by submission, giving a clear route to victory for his opponents. Lightweight Steve Garcia aims to make it four straight wins and four straight finishes against well-experienced UFC veteran Seung Woo Choi in the co-main event. Sadly, the originally scheduled co-main event between Jun-Yong Park and Brad Tavares was canceled after weigh-ins due to a medical issue for Park.
