Currently sitting with a perfect 18-0 record. Russia’s undefeated Movsar Evloev wants to make his mark in the featherweight division and hopes a fight with a former champion might help him get to the top.
Taking to X, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who recently made the jump to featherweight at UFC 300. When asked by a fan who he’d rather fight between Brian Ortega and Movsar Evloev. The Funk Master replied with the following:
“Both are fun grappling matchups. Who do I want? The highest ranked guy, and that is Brian Ortega.”
Undefeated Prospect Movsar Evloev Calls For Fight With Former Champion
Movsar Evloev saw the former champion’s post and gave his thoughts on the matter.
“Let’s be real, you just want the easier fight. Unlike Ortega, I’m ready to go. Let’s get it done already”
Making his thoughts clear. Evloev wants to take out another top contender in his quest for featherweight gold. Currently, the Russian is three places higher than Sterling in the rankings. With Evloev at five and Sterling at eight.
Several hours after the initial exchange Sterling would make another post asking fans who they would like to see him fight. Two additional names were mentioned alongside Ortega and Evloev. Both Arnold Allen and Yair Rodriguez were added to the mix.
Movsar Evloev vs Aljamain Sterling
Last time out the marauding Movsar Evloev took out highly touted Brit Arnold Allen via unanimous decision to remain underfeated. The bout didn’t go all Evloev’s way but it was his hand raised in the end. With elite MMA grappling, his control is some of the best in the division. 8-0 in the UFC thus far he is yet to score his first finish.
Sterling is in a similar position to his potential next opponent. Defeating Calvin Kattar in a dominant decision. Sterling has been criticised for coasting in fights. Looking to make his mark at featherweight, a grappler vs grappler match-up could be perfect to propel Sterling towards title contention.
