The undercard for the hotly anticipated fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois has been announced. The card is taking place on September 21st in Wembley stadium as part of Riyadh season. The main event just by itself is great but the undercard just like other Saudi shows is stacked. The undercard includes familiar names who have previously been on the Saudi shows and some new faces. As befits a Wembley card the undercard is loaded with exciting domestic dust ups.
Top of the Undercard
The co-main event is Hamzah Sheeraz vs Tyler Denny. Sheeraz is a rising prospect in the middleweight division who is huge for the division. Last time out he had a mature performance against Ammo Williams on the Matchroom vs Queensberry card. There he boxed well and stopped Williams in round 11. This fight against Denny will be for Denny’s EBU title a European level belt. Denny himself is no soft touch having a win over Felix Cash.
The supporting event is another IBF world title fight but at 130lbs between Anthony Cacace and Josh Warrington. Cacace is a newly crowned champion dethroning Joe Cordina in an excellent fight on the Fury vs Usyk undercard. Cacace demonstrated his skill, heart, and grit to win the title and will not be willing to part with it easily. His opponent Josh Warrington is a former IBF world champion at 126lbs. Despite recent losses Warrington is a tough customer who comes to fight and is willing to get dirty to win.
Liam Smith vs Josh Kelly is under that. Smith is a former world title challenger and former world champion previously holding the WBO world title at super welterweight. And in recent times Smith has moved up to middleweight where he had a great win over Chris Eubank Jr however lost the rematch. Smith also has wins over Anthony Fowler, Liam Williams and has fought against the likes of Canelo and Jaime Mungia. Kelly is a fun fighter who has struggled to get past European and international level having success domestically but struggling at higher levels.
Bottom of the Undercard
Willy Hutchinson vs Joshua Buatsi is a great light heavyweight fight for the WBO interim title. Both Hutchinson and Buatsi are rising contenders at 175lbs and are some of the few fighters who provide depth to the division. Hutchinson was previously on a Saudi show participating in the Matchroom vs Queensberry card. There he had a great fight against Craig “The Spider” Richards. That win put Hutchinson on the map for many with his performance.
Buatsi has been an established name at 175lbs for a while making a name for himself in the domestic scene. Buatsi also has a win of Richards as well as wins over Dan Azeez and Bolotniks. This fight will have implications for the light heavyweight title picture with the winner becoming mandatory the WBO belt. That belt is currently held by Beterbiev and will be held by the winner of Beterbiev vs Bivol.
And the first fight of the night will be Mark Chamberlain Vs Josh Padley at lightweight. Chamberlain and Padley are both undefeated rising prospects at 135lbs. Both are looking to make names for themselves and keep their 0s and should be a fun scrap between two young up and comers.
Overall, this card has great promise and should deliver some great fights come September 21st.
