Former two-time title challenger Urijah Faber has recently affirmed a possible return for Conor McGregor at the upcoming UFC 300 event. In the veteran’s opinion, the Irishman is ready to make his octagon comeback. However, despite being confident in McGregor’s return, the former NCAA wrestler is not sure who ‘MysticMac’s possible comeback opponent might be.
Last seen in action back in 2021, Conor McGregor sustained a gruesome leg injury that forced him out of action. But if the pics of his recovery are taken into consideration, the fighter seems to be in great shape. However, despite this, any news of his comeback has been speculation at best. Nonetheless, it looks like Urijah Faber is confident in Conor McGregor’s return.
Urijah Faber Is Confident in Conor McGregor’s Return
In his recent interview with TheSchmo, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber expressed his opinion on Conor McGregor’s return. According to the American, the Irish sensation seems ready to make a comeback, likely at the upcoming UFC 300 event. In Faber’s own words: “I think, well, Conor’s been training his butt off. I’ve been checking him out, you know. He trains himself, he trains his kid, he rides on his yacht, he drinks beer and some whiskey. Yeah, I think he’s ready; he’s ready to go. He’s ready.”
This statement comes off as a ray of hope for McGregor’s fans who have been hoping for their star’s return for a while now. And what better time could it be than UFC 300? The card will mark the 300th event in the promotion’s event numerical chronology. For those unaware, this chronology began way back in 1993 with UFC 1. Within this time frame, the company has witnessed a great deal of ups and downs. From almost going bankrupt in 2006 to becoming the most profitable martial arts promotion in 2022.
With this in mind, it’s undeniable that fans across the globe are hyped up for this card. And although there are no official words yet, fans have been speculating the possible superfights and return. One of those returns being arguably the biggest star the promotion has ever witnessed: Conor McGregor.
The Uncertainty Around McGregor’s Possible Opponent Continues
Despite backing Conor McGregor’s UFC return, Urijah Faber seemed uncertain about his possible opponent. As of now, Michael Chandler is being touted as the one to give McGregor a welcome back. Faber too acknowledged this as a possibility, but ‘The California Kid’ didn’t sound too confident in this. “Michael Chandler? Yeah, maybe, maybe anybody. Conor’s always talking crap to everybody, so you never know who could pop up as a good fight,” said Faber.
This isn’t the first time that people have questioned the possibility of ‘Iron’ getting a fight against ‘Notorious.’ The two men were last seen as rival coaches on TUF, and in the show’s tradition were expected to fight following the finale. But that hasn’t happened yet. It is interesting to note that there have been only a handful of seasons when the coaches failed to uphold this tradition. One of those duos being Faber and McGregor, who coached rival teams on TUF 22.
