Bellator has a new lightweight champion, and his name is Usman Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov 16-0, continued the family legacy by running through Patricky Pitbull last night. The newly crowned lightweight champion is now five-consecutive victories under the promotion, with three first round finishes.
Pitbull has shared the Octagon with some of the most-respected names in the sport, including Josh Thompson, Ben Henderson, Michael Chandler, and Eddie Alvarez. The Brazilian captured the vacant lightweight strap last November by defeating Peter Queally.
There’s not much the Dagestani native could do wrong in last night’s clash. Usman landed a significant amount more strikes and outclassed Pitbull in the grappling exchanges. Pitbull survived until the final bell, but there was no doubt who would be crowned the winner.
