Usyk vs Fury 2 Speculation
Speculation has arisen since Usyk became undisputed champion whether or not a rematch would happen. It was rumoured and confirmed early into negotiations for the first fight there would be a 2-way rematch clause. So regardless of who won the loser could activate a rematch clause and seek to avenge their loss. However, given the fact of how Usyk gave Fury his biggest challenge and caused him the most damage of anyone people wondered if Fury would not take a rematch.
Initially after the fight Frank Warren made it clear that Fury would take the rematch in an interview with TalkSport. Warren stated, “his mood is that he wants the rematch” he referring to Tyson Fury. This is unsurprising coming from Fury’s promoter who wants Fury to take the biggest money fights and an Usyk rematch is currently the biggest. Fury wanting the rematch is also unsurprising given Usyk is the first man to officially and convincingly beat Fury. But, given how erratic Fury’s behaviour can be there was still uncertainty.
There was also some uncertainty from Usyk’s side. The undisputed champion has completed everything in boxing and would be well within his rights to retire. So many wondered if Usyk would just retire following his outstanding achievement. But given Usyk’s disposition it would be uncharacteristic of Usyk to deny Fury a rematch.
Usyk vs Fury 2 Confirmation
Any doubts about the rematch happening have now been silenced by his excellency Turki Alalshikh. In a Tweet Mr Alashikh confirmed that the rematch will be happening. He said, “The rematch between the Undisputed Champion Oleksandr Usyk and the Champion Tyson Fury is now scheduled on the 21 of December 2024 during Riyadh Season”. So we now have a date for this historic rematch.
As a date December makes plenty of sense. Both men need plenty of time to recover and properly rest particularly Fury. As previously stated Fury took a hefty amount of damage against Usyk particularly in round 9. Round 9 is the most hurt We’ve seen Fury hurt in his entire career. Fury was so concussed in the post fight interview he decided to shout, “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” despite it being May. And for Usyk he can give his body a rest after hard back to back training camps.
So with a date confirmed we will see if the rematch will be a repeat or revenge. Both men have room for improvement Fury more so with his only real success being those middle rounds. And for Usyk he really just needs to be able to execute the gameplan again. The only improvement Usyk can really make is maybe target Fury’s body even more to tire him sooner. Usyk also needs to be weary of changes Fury may make to his gameplan. And now we will have to wait to see who the victor shall be./separator
