Amateur heavyweight fighter Jamie Acton had a memorable week, never mind fight night at Almighty Fighting Championship 23, leaving Barnsley the amateur heavyweight champion.
Jamie Acton stepped in last-minute, replacing his teammate on the card and squared off against David Wilkinson. Even with no preparation, Acton made it look like an easy night in the office without discrediting Wilkinson.
Jamie Acton vs David Wilkinson
Jamie Acton wasted no time in marking his authority and taking the centre. Straight from the off-set, Acton was eager to get the fight to the floor and successfully did so.
After being patient and advancing positions, Acton was able to glide into full-mount effortlessly and throw multiple hammer-first through the guard of Wilkinson. His grappling skills were on full display when he transitioned onto the back and landed heavy blows. After Acton’s beautifully worked armbar attempt, Wilkinson did well to survive the first, which saw the bell save his opponent.
The second round mirrors the first, with Acton pushing forward and landing his second takedown of the fight. Wilkinson, who was exhausted on the bottom, had no ideas to deal with Acton’s constant pressure and onslaught. Acton was constantly one step ahead of his opponent and secured another slick arm-bar, this time forcing the tap.
Acton Dominates Wilkinson Over Two Rounds
With Jamie Acton becoming the new Almighty FC champion on just several days’ notices, we can expect to see him in the Almighty cage again this year.
In his short amateur career, the victory moved Acton to (2-0). However, the heavyweight was active in competing in grappling bouts in 2021.
In his first title defence, who would you like to see Jamie Acton square off against?
