Almighty Fighting Championship 28 is in the books, and the event delivered as always in the Metrodome in Barnsley.
Forty-four fighters made the walk, and every single amateur to professional athlete can hold their head high after displaying heart, courage and willpower to shine on the night.
Due to the standard of the event, it’s difficult to pinpoint some of the highlights that deserve a mention. A handful of fighters delivered. However, let’s look at some of the highlights from a memorable event.
Almighty Fighting Championship 28 Takeaways
Kayne Holmes is Championship Calibre
Kayne Holmes moved to (7-2) after finishing Daniel Ward in the fourth round in their featherweight title fight.
Holmes entered the bout riding all the momentum, having won his previous two bouts under Almighty earlier in the year. The Lodge Fight Club fighter never looked out of his depth, having never experienced a five-round fight before. It never showed, as his cardio was on point up until the fourth.
It’s a moment the young fighter will never forget, attaining his first amateur championship as well as headlining one of the top regional shows in the country.
Adam Butterworth Gruelling Pace and Pressure Prevails
Adam Butterworth retained his bantamweight title with a fourth-round guillotine over rising prospect Brooklyn Thomas.
Butterworth’s pace and pressure always finds a way to come out on top. The high-level experience was the difference maker in the contest, although young Thomas tested the champion numerous times and had his moments in the fight.
However, Butterworth was able to use his experience to hand the youngster his first loss.
Jamie MacDonald Has Dynamite in his fists
Scotland’s Jamie MacDonald put the UK circuit on notice by smoothly running through Robbie Kennedy with a first-round TKO.
The HMAC fighter had no intention of being in the cage for longer than he had to. He took the fight to the canvas early and used his positional awareness to find an opening to land shots on Kennedy, which put his lights out. The grappling was the key to shutting down Kennedy’s game in the past, and it’s exactly what MacDonald took advantage of.
A win over Kennedy is no easy task, given his experience and elusive style. MacDonald made a huge statement and now moves to 2-0 in his career.
Chris Hill Has a Rocket in His Right Hand
Chris Hill stole the show with his first-round knockout of Yu-Joe Lewis Lai.
Almighty always provides jaw-dropping moments, and Hill took that title on Saturday night. Yu-Joe Lewis Lai returned to his feet after being knocked stiff, which was great to see.
Hill moved to 3-0 as a professional, closing the year in good stead.
Tamas Jakab Is a Star in the Making
Tamas Jakab brought the same relentless style to the cage he had in his previous four fights before moving to 5-0 at Almighty FC 28.
The Hungary-born athlete remained undefeated by running through Tommy Skaugrim in the second round by TKO.
Watch for yourself…
No Quit in Dylan McGee
Win by any means necessary was Dylan McGee’s mindset when faced with a brutal arm-bar attempt from Hayden Baldwin.
It looked as if Baldwin was seconds away from attaining his third amateur win. However, McGee had other ideas.
Just look at the sheer heart on show from McGee.
Honourable Mentions From the Boss, Ray Thompson
