When it comes to amateur MMA records, there aren’t many around with as much experience as Scott Pedersen. Amateur titles, IMMAF bronze and a clear path to success. The switch to pro fighting wasn’t easy, but after some up-and-down results – this is why his return to Cage Warriors is coming at the perfect time.
The Welshman will make the walk again this Saturday at CW 156 in Cardiff. Taking on the Frenchman, Yohan Salvador, in an intriguing featherweight clash with a big point to prove.
Scott Pedersen: Cage Warriors Journey So Far
The 26-year-old made his professional debut at CW 120 back in March of 2021. It wasn’t to be on that night after Scott lost a decision to Matthew Elliot in London. Just three months later, he showed what he can do. A fantastic first round submission against Marcus Lewis gave him a first win as a pro.
It took a few months to get a fight sorted but Scott’s third fight didn’t go the way he wanted. It might not have been a dream to start with the promotion, but it didn’t stop him from signing a one-fight deal with Bellator. A short notice bout with the high rising Nate Kelly in Dublin was always going to be a tough test however.
Returning to his active ways, Scott was ready to bounce back just three months later at CW 138. An illegal knee from George Tanasa resulted in the fight ending a unanimous draw. Just over a year into his pro career, Pedersen’s record was now sitting at 1-3-1. So, what changed?
Making the Adjustments
When it comes to skill, experience and fight IQ, the Welshman sits very high on that list. There’s no doubt that his wrestling, his cardio and grappling are among that of the very best in Wales.
A product of Shore MMA and training with the likes of Jack Shore, Brett Johns and Oban Elliot on a daily basis. The tools to succeed are right there and that’s what brought Scott Pedersen into back-to-back slots at Budo FC 53 and 55. Two first-round finishes have propelled him back to where he believes he belongs.
His main event victory over Fabrizio Calio was ended halfway through round one after a tight rear naked choke. His second was finished early after a flurry of grounded strikes were enough to get it done.
Confidence wise, there’s no doubt he’s ready for another shot in the famous yellow gloves.
Fighting at Cage Warriors 156
The Vale Sports Arena will play host to the promotion’s big Cardiff Return this Saturday. Set to be his first fight in the Welsh capital as a pro, he’s taking on 3-4 Yohan Salvador.
Salvador will make his Cage Warriors debut in enemy territory against an opponent who’s ready to prove everyone wrong. A heavy striker who likes to move around the cage, it’s hard to know what you’re going to get.
From Scott’s perspective, this is an ideal matchup. In his home country, on the same card as a number of his teammates and coming off the back of two very impressive performances. He knows that a big victory on Saturday will throw his name right back into this mix.
Shore MMA full-timers Stephanie and Rory Evans are also in action, with part-timer Reece McEwan looking to make a huge statement in that bantamweight division.
You can watch Scott Pedersen and the rest of the card this Saturday on UFC Fight Pass from 5pm. We will be covering the whole event right here with news, interviews and results. Stay tuned.
