UFC featherweight Yair Rodriguez wasted no words when it came to launching a verbal tirade on newly crowned champion, Ilia Topuria.
The nation of Georgia gained its first UFC champion last Saturday when Ilia Topuria viciously knocked out defending champion Alexander Volkanvoski. Topuria, who represents both Georgia and Spain, left “The Great” unconscious after catching him up against the cage with a series of devastating strikes.
A prolific knockout wasn’t enough to simmer down Rodriguez’ hatred towards the champion, who let rip on Topuria at a presser ahead of his fight at UFC Mexico City.
Yair Rodriguez Blasts UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria
“I would love to f–k him up. No dont want to fight him, i want to f–k him up. There is a big difference in that, just to make that clear. And anywhere I f—–g see him I will f–k him up”
“F–k this bitch, I don’t f—–g like him”
‘El Pantera’ went on to clarify that the hatred he feels towards the champion is very uncharacteristic of him and that feuding with other fighters is a rarity. Rodriguez claims that the clash ignited on social media, when Topuria began trash talking the Mexican fighter.
“I don’t normally get into these kinds of situations with nobody, I’m really respectful – but this f—–g guy, I just don’t really like him. I don’t have to like him, I want to f–-k him up, that’s what I want to do.”
Co-maining UFC Mexico City, Rodriguez is set to rematch Brian Ortega and ideally with a win. He sets himself up for a title shot against Topuria, who he wishes to fight in Spain.
“I will fight him in his backyard if he wants. (…) In front of his people? It would be amazing to beat him up there. It would be the best feeling ever.”
Although adamant to get his hands on “El Matador”, he warned journalists at the press conference that the the two cannot be close to eachother, as he would “100%” want to attack him.
