UFC 280 will commence with twelve fights on Saturday night after another fight cancellation Due to Tukhugov pulling out.
Moments before the weigh-ins kicked off Jon Anik made an official announcement on behalf of the UFC that the featherweight matchup between Zubaira Tukhugov and Lucas Almeida would not take place due to “weight management issues”.
According to Anik, the weight miss is Tukhugovs side, who missed weight in 2020 at UFC 253. Tukhugov is of the Dagestanian fight team headed by Khabib Nurmagomedov and headliner Islam Makhachev. The cancellation means the former lightweight king will have one less fighter to corner.
Losing the preliminary bout drops the total number of fights at UFC 280 to just 12.
Only one other fighter struggled to make weight for UFC 280. No changes have been made to the card and that bout will move forward as planned.
